Here we present our jewellery range of solid silver Celtic crosses. Each cross comes with a silver chain and most include a descriptive story card, part of which is reproduced on this site. All are packaged in an attractive presentation box.

The Celtic cross is unique in the Christian world. The earliest version was an equal limbed cross, often flared at the ends and contained within a circle. It is thought to have been derived from a combination of the first two letters for Christ in Greek, chi and rho. This was a commonly used symbol of Christianity in the 4th Century AD. Over time, these two letters became the Celtic cross, with the circle around them symbolising celestial energy and eternity. The earliest high crosses were in Northumberland and Ireland The arms of the cross indicate spiritual expansion in all directions and the inner circle symbolizes the consolidation of these powers into a central point, a source of great spiritual energy. The stone crosses served many purposes, as expressions of faith, as boundaries of sacred ground, as way markers for pilgrims, as gathering places for the faithful, or to commemorate a King or Holy person. Even the destructive Vikings, upon their conversion to Christianity, contributed to the Celtic high crosses. They introduced patterns and scenes from Norse saga and fairy tales. This was particularly the case in the Isle of Man, which was totally under Viking control until the 13th century.
